The White Erasure

The room was white. Not the white of paint or paper, but the white of a dead star—a blinding, absolute void that erased the horizon. There was a bed, a table, and a mirror.

Subject 7 woke up. He didn't remember his name, his age, or the taste of salt. He only knew the Voice.

"Begin the sequence," the Voice commanded. It was a sound without a source, a vibration that felt like it was coming from inside his own skull.

Subject 7 stood up and walked to the mirror. He looked at his reflection. He was a man, or the idea of a man. But as he stared, he noticed something. His left ear was gone. Not cut off—just absent. Where it should have been, there was only a smooth, featureless expanse of skin.

He screamed, but the sound was swallowed by the white.

*Snap.*

He woke up. The Voice commanded the sequence. He walked to the mirror. Now, his left eye was a dull, grey void. The color had been bleached out, leaving behind a hollow shell.

"What are you doing to me?" he shrieked.

"Optimization," the Voice replied. "The loop requires resources. To maintain the stability of the simulation, we must prune the unnecessary. Your grief is a luxury. Your nostalgia is a waste of bandwidth. We are refining you."

Subject 7 began to panic. He tried to claw at the walls, but there were no walls, only the infinite white. He tried to remember a face, a name, a smell—anything that felt human. But with every loop, the memories grew thinner. The image of a woman's smile became a smudge; the sound of a child's laughter became a static hiss.

He realized that the "Reset" was not a return to the start. It was a subtraction. He was being eroded, layer by layer, like a stone in a relentless river.

By the hundredth loop, Subject 7 no longer had a mouth to scream with. He had no fingers to touch the table. He was a floating consciousness, a spark of awareness in a sea of nothingness.

He looked into the mirror one last time. There was no reflection. He was no longer a subject; he was a function. He was a pure, efficient line of code, stripped of the burden of being.

"Sequence complete," the Voice whispered.

Subject 7 didn't feel sadness. He didn't feel fear. He felt the exquisite, terrifying peace of absolute zero. He was finally optimized.
