I led him into a series of narrow, rusted catwalks over a vat of industrial solvent. I played the part of the broken man, stumbling, gasping, leading him deeper into the maze. When he finally cornered me, his face twisted in a smirk of triumph, I didn't fight. I pulled a lever.

The catwalk didn't just collapse; it pivoted. The Shadow, relying on his superior reflexes to balance, didn't account for the sudden shift in gravity and the burst of high-pressure steam I'd rigged to blow. He was knocked off balance, his perfect coordination momentarily shattered by the sensory overload.

I didn't use a gun. I used a heavy iron chain, looping it around his ankle and dragging him down into the dark, churning chemicals below.

As he sank, the Shadow looked at me. For a split second, the arrogance vanished, replaced by a raw, human terror. He realized that in his quest for perfection, he had forgotten how to survive a world that was fundamentally broken.

I stood at the edge of the vat, the purple neon of the city reflecting in the ripples. I had won, but as I looked at my reflection in a shard of broken glass, I didn't see a victor. I just saw another version of a man who had lost everything.
