The Zero Point

The world was made of time, and time was a mineral. In the deep crust of the earth, Time-Miners extracted veins of "Chronium," which the elite consumed to extend their lives and the poor used to power their heaters.

Kaelen was a scavenger, a man who lived in the slag heaps of the great mines. One day, he found a vein of "Origin-Time"—a shimmering, iridescent substance that didn't just extend life, but allowed the user to see every possible version of their own future.

Kaelen consumed it in a fit of hunger and desperation.

Suddenly, he was no longer just a man. He was a god. He could rewrite the history of the city with a thought. He turned the slag heaps into gardens and the mines into palaces. He gave the poor eternal youth and the rich a taste of true humility.

But the Origin-Time was not a gift; it was a loan with a catastrophic interest rate.

The more Kaelen used the power, the more the "Time-Collapse" accelerated. He noticed that the edges of the world were beginning to fray. People were disappearing—not dying, but simply ceasing to have ever existed. The sky turned the color of a bruised plum, and the stars began to blink out one by one.

Kaelen tried to reverse the process, but the Origin-Time had rewritten his own nature. He was now the anchor of the collapse. The more he tried to save the world, the faster he pulled it toward the zero point.

In the final hours, the city became a ghost of itself. The gardens turned to ash, and the palaces dissolved into static. Kaelen stood alone in a void of absolute white, the only thing left in a universe that had run out of seconds.

He looked at the last remaining fragment of Origin-Time in his hand. He realized that the only way to stop the collapse was to consume the rest of it and erase himself from the timeline entirely.

He didn't hesitate. He swallowed the light.

There was a sudden, violent contraction. The universe shrank to a single, infinitesimal point of infinite density. For one brief moment, every life that had ever been lived, every love that had ever been felt, and every tear that had ever fallen existed in a single, perfect harmony.

Then, the point exploded.

A new world began. It was a world without Time-Miners, without Chronium, and without gods. It was a world where people grew old, where things broke, and where death was a certainty.

And in that world, a man woke up in a field of green grass, with no memory of who he was, but with a strange, lingering feeling that he had once saved everything by becoming nothing.
