The Last Gasp of Neon

(Act 1: 20%) Los Angeles, 1947. The city was a fever dream of neon and rain. Leo was a private eye who operated out of a room that smelled of stale tobacco and old regrets. Six months ago, a freak accident with an experimental radio frequency had left him with a gift: he could hear the whispers of the city's strays. But the gift came with a price. Every time he tapped into the "frequency," a piece of his memory vanished, replaced by a static hum. He was a man erasing himself to find the truth. He was hired by a widow whose husband had vanished from a locked room, leaving behind only a single, dead canary.

(Act 2: 30%) Leo spent his nights in the rain-slicked alleys of Bunker Hill, talking to the alley cats. They spoke of a "Collector," a man who traded in secrets and souls. The cats led him to a series of underground clubs where the elite played games of chance with human lives. Leo solved the first two clues—a hidden key in a sewer grate and a coded letter in a birdcage—but the cost was mounting. He forgot his mother's face. He forgot the name of the street where he grew up. He was becoming a hollow shell, a vessel for the whispers of animals. The widow's grief was a distant echo, but the "Collector's" presence was a suffocating weight.

(Act 3: 35%) The confrontation happened in a derelict theater. The Collector wasn't a monster, but a mirror—a man who had once had the same gift as Leo and had let it consume him entirely. The Collector revealed that the missing husband hadn't been kidnapped; he had volunteered to become part of the "frequency" to escape his own failures. To solve the final puzzle and find the body, Leo had to give up his last remaining anchor: the memory of his first love. He did it without hesitation. As the final secret was revealed—the husband's body hidden beneath the stage—Leo felt the last light in his mind flicker and die.

(Act 4: 15%) Leo walked back to his office in the gray light of dawn. He looked at the photograph on his desk, but he didn't recognize the woman in the picture. He didn't remember the widow's name or why he had taken the case. He sat in his chair, listening to the pigeons on the roof. They were singing a song of absolute silence. He picked up his glass of bourbon and toasted to the man he used to be, a man who was now nothing more than a whisper in the wind.
