## Chapter I: The City of Secrets

New Orleans, 1890. Silas Duval was twenty-three when he left the Appalachian monastery for this city of secrets. The monastery had been founded by former missionaries and physicians who taught him medicine, botany, and self-defense.

Sister Eileen had come to New Orleans three months ago to investigate a rare neurological disease. She had sent three letters, then suddenly stopped. The last letter contained only one sentence: "They are here. The Garden of Bones. Do not come."

Silas ignored the abbot's warnings and journeyed to New Orleans.

## Chapter II: The Underground

New Orleans' fog smelled of Mississippi silt and rotting flowers. Silas found Eileen's last address—an old mansion in the French Quarter. The mansion was closed, but a note under the door read in Latin: "The Garden of Bones awaits the returnee."

Silas began asking around. A nurse told him about "The Garden of Bones"—a secret society that used living people for "transformation" rituals. They believed that through certain ceremonies, human souls could be transferred into more powerful bodies.

Eileen hadn't disappeared—she had been chosen.

## Chapter III: The Cave

Silas found the Garden of Bones' headquarters in the underground catacombs—a vast network controlled by New Orleans' wealthiest families. In the deepest chamber, he found Eileen.

She was alive but transformed. Her body was covered in a black substance, her skin thin and fragile like porcelain, her eyes pure white. She retained consciousness but could not control her body. She communicated with Silas through thought:

"They turned me into a... vessel. The Garden's leader—a man called Count Moreau—told me the truth: Eileen wasn't forced. She volunteered. She knew a disease was spreading—a disease that would kill one-third of New Orleans. And 'transformation' was the only cure. Eileen used her own body as an experiment and found the cure. But she became inhuman."

## Chapter IV: The Ashes

Silas faced a choice: destroy the Garden, let Eileen die in pain but stop more people from being "transformed"; or let the Garden continue, save the city, but sacrifice countless people's free will.

He chose the former. He burned the underground headquarters, released the other "vessels," then carried Eileen out of the catacombs.

Eileen whispered on Silas's back: "You made the right choice. Even if it destroyed me."

Eileen died at dawn. Her body turned to ashes in the sunlight—as if she had never existed.

Silas carried Eileen's cure—a antibiotic extracted from the black substance—and saved New Orleans.

But he could never forget Eileen's last expression—not pain, not fear, but peace. A person who volunteered to sacrifice, forgotten forever by the city she saved.
