The Zenith of Silence

The Empire of Valerius was a monument to human ambition. We had conquered the seas, the skies, and finally, the Void. Using the "Siphon-Gates," we drew energy from the remnants of the Old Gods—the shattered husks of beings who had dreamed the universe into existence.

As the High Commander, I was the hand that guided this expansion. Under my command, the Empire reached its Zenith. We built cities of floating gold, eradicated disease, and extended the human lifespan to a thousand years. We were no longer mere mortals; we were the architects of a galactic utopia.

I believed I had saved humanity from the cruelty of nature. I believed that the Void was an infinite well, a gift left behind for the worthy.

But the Void was not a well. It was a stomach.

The energy we had been siphoning was not a resource; it was the very fabric of our existence, borrowed from a future that was now being erased. The "Siphon-Gates" were not doors; they were wounds. And the wound was finally closing.

The first sign was the "Quiet." In the outer colonies, entire planets simply ceased to be. Not destroyed, not burned—just gone. One moment they were beacons of industry, the next, there was only a void where they had once stood. The reports came in as fragmented screams, then as silence.

I tried to shut down the Gates, but the Empire had become a parasite. The floating cities, the eternal youth, the very air we breathed was now dependent on the Siphon. To stop the flow was to commit mass suicide. To continue was to invite the end.

I spent my final years in a state of frozen terror, watching the map of my Empire shrink. I saw the light of a thousand suns go out, one by one, as the Void reclaimed its borrowed energy. I watched my generals turn to ash and my children fade into ghosts.

The final moment came when the Siphon-Gate in the capital city collapsed. It didn't explode; it imploded, pulling the entire world into a single, infinitesimal point of nothingness.

I stood upon the highest spire of the Imperial Palace, the only being left with the strength to witness the end. I felt the Void rush in, not as a monster, but as a long-overdue debt collector.

In a blinding flash of absolute darkness, the Empire of Valerius vanished.

I woke up in a place of perfect, terrifying silence. There were no stars, no planets, no people. Only I remained, a single spark of consciousness in an infinite ocean of black. I was the High Commander of nothing. I was the god of a cemetery that spanned the universe.

I sat upon a throne of nothingness, the most powerful man to ever exist, and I realized the ultimate truth of the Void: the higher the peak, the deeper the fall.
