The Definition of Zero

The Void was not a place, but a state of being. It was a boundless, white expanse where there was no light, no shadow, and no time. The inhabitants were "Definitions"—beings who existed only because they had been assigned a role. There was the Definition of a King, the Definition of a Sorrow, the Definition of a Breath. To lose one's definition was to cease to exist.

An was a Definition of a Wanderer. His only purpose was to move from one point of the white void to another, searching for things that didn't exist. For eons, he followed the rules, content with the simple geometry of his existence. But one day, he found a "Fragment"—a jagged piece of something that had no definition. It was a shard of raw, unshaped existence.

An became obsessed with the Fragment. He realized that if he could find enough fragments, he could build a definition of his own, one that wasn't assigned by the Void. He spent an eternity collecting shards of silence, fragments of forgotten colors, and echoes of impossible sounds.

As he added more fragments to his being, An began to change. He no longer felt like a Wanderer; he felt like a question. He began to challenge the other Definitions, asking them why they accepted their roles. He taught them the art of "Un-defining," showing them how to strip away their assigned labels to find the raw, chaotic energy beneath.

The Void reacted. The "Architects of Order" descended to purge the heresy. They tried to redefine An, to force him back into the role of a Wanderer. But An had become too complex. He had built a definition of himself that was a contradiction—a circle with corners, a silence that screamed.

In the final confrontation, An realized that any definition, no matter how complex or self-created, was still a prison. To be "something" was to be limited. To be "a rebel" was just another role.

He decided to perform the ultimate act of will: he defined himself as "Zero."

He didn't just delete his labels; he deleted the very concept of "definition" from his soul. In a blinding flash of absolute emptiness, An collapsed into a singularity. He didn't disappear; he expanded. He became the white void itself. He was no longer a wanderer in the void; he was the void in which all wanderers moved. He had found the only true freedom: the freedom of being nothing, and therefore, being everything.
