The White Void

The world was not a place, but a state. It was a vast, infinite expanse of blinding white, a void where there were no horizons, no shadows, and no landmarks. There were no monsters here, no predators in the mist. There was only the Law of the Collapse.

The Law was simple: any sound produced in the void caused a localized collapse of the space. A whisper would create a small fissure; a shout would trigger a cataclysmic implosion that could erase miles of existence in a heartbeat.

A and B had lived in the void for a time they could no longer measure. They were not friends, nor were they strangers; they were simply the only two points of consciousness in a sea of nothingness.

They survived through a rigorous, shared silence. They communicated through a complex system of tactile signals—taps on the shoulder, the pressure of a hand, the rhythm of breathing. They built a life out of the absence of things.

For years, they existed in a state of fragile equilibrium. But as the decades passed, the silence began to change. It was no longer a protection; it was a parasite.

A began to notice the erosion of his own mind. Without the anchor of sound, his memories were fading. He could no longer remember the color of the sky or the sound of his mother's voice. He felt himself becoming a part of the white void—a ghost of a man, dissolving into the nothingness.

"We are not living," A signed to B one afternoon. "We are just delaying our disappearance."

B disagreed. B found peace in the void. To B, the silence was the ultimate truth—a liberation from the noise and conflict of the world they had left behind.

But A's desperation grew. He began to crave the collapse. He started to imagine the sound of a scream not as a disaster, but as a liberation. He wondered if a sufficiently loud noise could shatter the void entirely and return them to a world of substance.

The tension between them grew. A became a source of instability, his movements erratic, his touch aggressive. He was no longer seeking survival; he was seeking a conclusion.

One morning, A stood before B. He didn't sign. He didn't touch. He simply looked into B's eyes with a terrifying, lucid intensity.

A opened his mouth.

He didn't just shout; he poured every ounce of his remaining existence into a single, primal, guttural roar. It was a sound of a thousand years of suppressed longing, of a million forgotten memories, of an absolute, crushing loneliness.

The void responded.

A massive fissure ripped open beneath them, a black maw of non-existence that began to swallow the white space. The collapse was instantaneous and violent. The world around them folded in on itself like a piece of burning paper.

In the final second before the void closed completely, A felt a surge of electric joy. He was finally being heard. He was finally real.

B reached out and grabbed A's hand, not in fear, but in a final, shared understanding. As the darkness consumed them, they were no longer two separate points in a void. They were a single, resonant chord of existence, vanishing into the silence from which they had come.
