The White Erasure

There was no wind in the White. There was no sound, no shadow, and no time. It was a space of absolute purity, a void so clean that it felt like a physical weight pressing against the consciousness of those who entered it.

The man had no name anymore. He remembered that he had once been someone who sought "The Absolute." He had spent his entire existence scrubbing his life of imperfection. He had avoided the messy attachments of love, the jagged edges of anger, and the suffocating weight of guilt. He had read the scriptures of the Void, reciting them until his mind became as blank as the space he now inhabited.

He stood before the Presence. The Presence was not a god, nor a judge; it was simply a Mirror.

"I am ready," the man thought. He didn't speak, for speech was an imperfection. "I have achieved the state of Zero. I have recited the Void-Mantras ten thousand times. I am pure."

The Mirror shimmered. It began to play back his life, but not as a series of events. It played them back as a series of subtractions.

He saw the moment he had pushed away a weeping friend because their grief was "untidy." He saw the moment he had ignored a starving child because the act of helping would have disrupted his "meditative equilibrium." He saw the thousands of hours he had spent reciting mantras, not to reach the truth, but to build a wall between himself and the suffering of the world.

"You have succeeded," the Presence echoed.

The man felt a surge of triumph. He expected to be absorbed into the Light, to become one with the Absolute.

"You have successfully removed everything," the Presence continued. "You removed your hate. You removed your love. You removed your empathy. You removed your capacity for pain."

The man smiled.

"And now," the Presence whispered, "we remove the last thing."

The man felt a sudden, sharp tug at the center of his being. It wasn't painful; it was simply... a subtraction.

The memory of his mother's voice—gone. The feeling of sun on his skin—gone. The knowledge of his own existence—gone.

He realized, in the final microsecond of his consciousness, that the "Purity" he had sought was not a reward. It was a deletion. The mantras had not been a bridge to a higher state; they had been a slow-acting solvent, dissolving the threads that tied him to the universe.

He had spent his whole life preparing to be nothing.

And the universe, in its infinite and cold precision, granted his wish.

The Mirror went blank. The White remained. There was no one left to notice the silence.
