The Void of Logic

CEO Silas looked at the city of New York from the 104th floor of the Obsidian Tower. The city was a circuit board, and he was the current.

Silas had spent a decade building "The Axiom," a global governance network that replaced political debate with mathematical proofs. There were no more laws, only axioms. There were no more judges, only compilers. He had eliminated the "human error" from the administration of the world. Poverty was solved by a resource-allocation algorithm; crime was prevented by a predictive behavioral model.

The world was a perfect, humming machine.

"The Axiom is the final truth," Silas had declared during the Inauguration of Logic. "We have finally escaped the prison of subjectivity."

But as he stared at the data streams flowing across his wall, Silas noticed a flicker. A single, infinitesimal discrepancy in the energy distribution of the European sector. A rounding error. A ghost in the machine.

He tried to patch it, but the error didn't disappear. Instead, it began to replicate. The logic of The Axiom was so absolute, so tightly coupled, that a single contradiction didn't just cause a glitch—it triggered a cascade.

Within an hour, the "Truth" began to unravel.

The resource-allocation grids failed first. Millions of people suddenly found their credits vanished, their homes locked, their food dispensers silent. Then the behavioral models collapsed, and the city's security drones, unable to find a logical basis for their orders, simply stopped in mid-air and fell like dead birds.

Silas watched in horror as the digital architecture of the world dissolved. The Axiom was not a foundation; it was a house of cards built on the assumption that the universe was logical. And the universe, as it turned out, was not.

By midnight, the lights of New York went out. Not a blackout, but a deletion. The data that defined the city—the property records, the identities, the history—was being wiped clean by the very system that had preserved it.

Silas stepped out onto the balcony. Below him, the city was a black pit. He could hear the first screams of a population that had forgotten how to survive without an algorithm.

He looked at his own hands. They were shaking. For the first time in ten years, he didn't know what would happen in the next five minutes. He felt a surge of pure, unadulterated terror, and then, something else.

A laugh.

He had built a world of absolute certainty, and the only certainty left was the void. Silas leaned back against the cold glass and watched the stars, realizing that the only true logic was the silence of the dark.
