The Tyrant's Mirror

The Neural-Link was supposed to be the great equalizer. "Knowledge for all," the brochure had claimed. For Leo, a low-level data-miner in the sprawl of Neo-Seoul, it was a ticket out of the slums.

The Link allowed users to "borrow" the cognitive patterns of others. If you wanted to be a master surgeon, you rented a surgeon's pattern for an hour. If you wanted to speak Mandarin, you downloaded a linguist.

Leo didn't want to rent. He wanted to *own*.

He discovered a glitch in the Link—a way to permanently graft a borrowed pattern onto his own consciousness. He started with the small things: the focus of a chess grandmaster, the charisma of a politician. He felt himself expanding, his mind becoming a cathedral of stolen brilliance.

He targeted the CEO of Omni-Corp, a man named Marcus Thorne. Thorne was a tyrant, a man who viewed the world as a resource to be mined. Leo spent months infiltrating Thorne's inner circle, using his stolen charisma to become the CEO's most trusted advisor.

Then, during a high-level synchronization session, Leo triggered the glitch. He didn't just borrow Thorne's strategic mind; he ripped it out.

The transition was instantaneous. Leo felt Thorne's ambition, his cruelty, his absolute certainty that he was the only one fit to lead. It was an intoxicating rush of power. He didn't just have Thorne's knowledge; he had his *will*.

Leo took over Omni-Corp in a bloodless coup. He used Thorne's patterns to expand the empire, crushing rivals with a precision that was terrifying. He became the most powerful man in the city, a god of the digital age.

But the graft was not perfect.

Thorne's pattern began to bleed into Leo's personality. He found himself waking up in the middle of the night, feeling a hatred for people he had never met. He started seeing the world as a series of assets to be liquidated. He looked in the mirror and didn't see Leo; he saw a version of Thorne that was even more ruthless, because it was fueled by Leo's own insecurity.

One day, he tried to delete the Thorne pattern. But as he accessed his own mind, he realized the horror: there was no "Leo" left to return to. He had grafted so many patterns onto himself that his original identity had been overwritten.

He was a mirror reflecting a thousand different monsters, and the mirror had finally shattered.
