The Precision Void

Arthur Penhaligon did not see the world in colors or shapes; he saw it in vectors. To Arthur, a falling leaf was a parabolic curve; a conversation was a series of rhythmic intervals; a heartbeat was a metronome. He was the world's most feared competitive shooter, not because of his reflexes, but because he had solved the equation of the world.

"The void is where the truth lives," Arthur whispered to himself in the sterile white of his training room.

His obsession had evolved. It was no longer about the trophies or the fame. It was about the *Zero*. The Zero was the theoretical point of absolute precision—a shot so perfect that it didn't just hit the target, but occupied the exact same space as the target at the exact same nanosecond.

He began to apply the Zero to everything. He timed his blinking to the millisecond. He chewed his food in precise, equidistant intervals. He stopped speaking in sentences, instead using a series of optimized syllables to convey maximum information with minimum effort.

His teammates grew afraid. They watched him stand still for hours, staring at a wall, calculating the air currents of the room. He had stopped sleeping; sleep was an inefficient use of time.

The World Finals arrived. Arthur stepped onto the stage, but he didn't see the crowd or the flashing lights. He saw a grid of glowing lines. He saw the wind as a series of undulating waves. He saw the enemy's movement as a predictable sequence of coordinates.

He fired.

The shot was a masterpiece. It was the Zero. The bullet traveled a path so mathematically perfect that it seemed to teleport from the barrel to the center of the target.

But in that moment of absolute precision, something snapped. The equation solved itself, and the answer was nothing. Arthur realized that if everything was predictable, if every movement was a solved vector, then there was no such thing as a choice. There was no such thing as a "will."

He looked at his rifle and saw it not as a tool, but as a line in a drawing that had already been completed. He began to laugh—a rhythmic, precise sound that didn't reach his eyes. He turned the gun toward the ceiling and fired again, not at a target, but at the void.

As the security teams rushed the stage, Arthur remained still, staring at the hole in the ceiling, finally understanding that the only way to escape the equation was to become the error.
