The Iron Vanguard

The valley of Oros was a scar on the earth, a place where the wind screamed like a dying god. Alexander stood atop the ridge, his cape snapping in the gale. He was eighteen, but his eyes held the weight of a century. In his hand was the Obsidian Blade, a weapon that had seen the fall of his house and the slaughter of his kin.

For six years, Alexander had been a shadow in the periphery of the Empire, a scavenger in the ruins of his own legacy. But the time for hiding had ended. He had not spent those years merely surviving; he had spent them building.

Beneath the ridge, ten thousand men and women waited in silence. They were the "Unseen"—the peasants, the deserters, and the broken who had found a voice in Alexander's vision. He had not offered them gold or glory, but a simple, terrifying truth: that the Empire was a parasite, and the only way to survive was to cut it out.

"Today," Alexander's voice rang out, amplified by the natural acoustics of the valley, "we stop running. Today, we stop asking for permission to exist."

The assault on the Capital was not a battle; it was a reckoning. Alexander led the vanguard, a silver streak of steel and fury. He didn't fight with the desperation of a victim, but with the precision of a conqueror. He tore through the Imperial Guard, his blade carving a path of retribution through the streets he had once walked as a frightened child.

When he finally reached the throne room, the usurper, Lord Valerius, was waiting. Valerius looked at the boy and laughed, a sound of pure, arrogant disbelief.

"You think a few peasants and a rusted sword can undo a decade of order?" Valerius sneered.

Alexander didn't answer with words. He moved with a speed that defied the eye, the Obsidian Blade finding the gap in Valerius's armor with surgical accuracy. As the usurper fell, Alexander didn't feel the rush of victory. He felt a profound, echoing emptiness.

He sat on the throne, the crown of the Empire heavy on his brow. He had reclaimed his home, but as he looked out over the burning city, he realized that the boy who had loved the gardens of Oros was dead. In his place sat a king who knew that the only way to maintain peace was through the edge of a sword.
