The Aeon Exchange

In the glass towers of New York, the most valuable commodity wasn't gold or data; it was "Life-Cycles." If you were wealthy enough, you could buy a cycle from a lower-class citizen, extending your life and youth by decades.

Adrian Thorne was the king of the Exchange. He didn't just trade cycles; he manipulated the market. He could crash the value of a decade in a single afternoon, forcing thousands into poverty just so he could buy their youth for pennies.

Adrian's goal was the "Origin Asset"—the original source of all Life-Cycles, a mythical reservoir of infinite time. He believed that whoever controlled the Origin would not just be a billionaire, but a god.

He spent years playing a complex game of corporate espionage, pitting the different Aeon-Factions against each other. He staged coups, engineered scandals, and betrayed every ally he ever had. He was a master of the leverage, a predator in a tailored suit.

"The world is just a series of transactions, Adrian," his mentor had told him. "The only mistake is to believe in something that doesn't have a price."

Adrian finally found the Origin. It wasn't a reservoir of time; it was a mirror.

When he stepped into the Origin Chamber, he didn't find infinite life. He found a ledger. The ledger listed every cycle ever traded, every second stolen, and every life shortened. At the bottom of the list was his own name.

He realized that his own "youth" was a loan, a compound interest debt that had finally come due. The Origin wasn't a prize to be won; it was the cosmic debt collector.

As the system began to reclaim its time, Adrian felt his body age a century in a second. His skin wrinkled, his bones became brittle, and his mind clouded with the weight of a thousand stolen years.

He looked around the room and saw the other "gods" of the Exchange, all of them shrinking, all of them decaying. They had spent their lives stealing time, only to find that time is the only thing that cannot be owned.

In his final moments, Adrian tried to negotiate. He offered the Origin all his wealth, all his power, all his influence.

The mirror didn't answer. It simply reflected a frail, terrified old man who had spent his entire life buying seconds, only to run out of minutes.

He died in a room full of gold, the poorest man in the history of the world.
