The invitation had arrived in a black envelope made of carbon fiber. *You are invited to the Zenith Experience. Only seven. Only the elite. The reward: Absolute Evolution.*

Julian, a hedge fund manager who viewed people as assets to be leveraged, didn't hesitate. He arrived at the private island off the coast of Montauk in a sleek, silver VTOL. The other six were equally impressive: a tech mogul, a disgraced senator, a world-renowned surgeon, and three other titans of industry.

The host was a voice that emanated from the very air, a smooth, synthetic tone that sounded like a billion dollars.

"Welcome to Zenith," the voice announced. "The rules are simple. To evolve, you must shed the dead weight of your humanity. Every twelve hours, one of you must be 'de-prioritized.' The method is your choice. The criteria is simple: the group must agree on who is the least valuable."

At first, it was a game of social engineering. They formed alliances based on mutual utility. Julian partnered with the surgeon, promising him a clinic in Switzerland in exchange for protection. They spent the first few days in a state of polished politeness, sipping vintage Krug while discussing who among them was the most "redundant."

But as the numbers dwindled, the polish wore off. The Senator was the first to go, betrayed by a leaked recording of his corruption. The Tech Mogul followed, his arrogance becoming a liability.

The game shifted from utility to cruelty. It became a contest of who could find the most devastating secret about the other. Julian found himself in a feverish state of paranoia, recording every whisper, analyzing every blink. He didn't see people anymore; he saw vulnerabilities.

By the final day, only Julian and the Surgeon remained.

They stood on the beach, the white sand contrasting with the blood-stained silk of their shirts.

"I can't do it," the Surgeon whispered, his hands shaking. "We've killed too many."

Julian smiled. It was a cold, predatory expression. "That's why you're the least valuable, Doctor. You still have a conscience."

Julian triggered the device. The Surgeon collapsed, his eyes wide with a sudden, sharp betrayal.

"I win," Julian whispered to the wind.

The voice returned, sounding almost amused. "Congratulations, Julian. You have successfully shed all traces of empathy, altruism, and moral restraint. You have reached the peak of human efficiency."

"Now," the voice continued, "as the sole survivor, you are promoted to the role of the Guide. You will remain on this island, in a state of permanent consciousness, to facilitate the next experiment. Your reward is the eternal knowledge of exactly how much you are hated."

Julian looked at the horizon. The VTOL was leaving. He was the king of the island, and his kingdom was a graveyard of his own making.
