The Bloodline Ledger

The ledger of the House of Thorne was written in ink and blood, spanning three centuries of a war that no one in the modern world remembered how to stop. It was a book of debts, grudges, and genetic markers, a record of every betrayal and every blood-pact made in the name of survival.

The first Thorne had attempted the Great Fusion, a desperate project to merge the blood of the High-born and the Low-born to end the strife that was consuming the continent. He believed that by creating a hybrid race, he could erase the boundaries of hatred. He failed, but not entirely. He succeeded in creating a new kind of life, but it came with a price: a legacy of madness and a curse that ensured every first-born son would inherit the hunger of both races—a craving for power and a void that could never be filled.

The second Thorne spent his life in a gilded cage, a prisoner of his own heritage. He fought the hunger with opium and isolation, spending his days in a library of forbidden texts, trying to find a way to excise the 'Other' from his blood. He watched his children wither under the weight of a heritage they didn't choose, their bodies breaking under the pressure of a genetic conflict they couldn't understand. He died in a fit of rage, screaming at a god he didn't believe in.

I am the third. I inherited the hunger, the madness, and the ledger. For a decade, I traced the failures of my ancestors, realizing that the curse was not biological, but psychological—a cycle of guilt and retribution that had become the only identity the House of Thorne possessed. We were not defined by our blood, but by our obsession with it.

I realized that the only way to stop the cycle was not to 'cure' the blood, but to destroy the record. I spent a year gathering every document, every sample, and every ledger associated with the House of Thorne. I didn't seek a scientific solution; I sought a spiritual erasure. I burned the archives in a single, towering bonfire that lit up the night sky for miles, watching as the history of my family turned into grey ash. I walked into the wasteland, choosing to let the House of Thorne end with me, so that the world could finally forget the blood and begin to see the person.
