The Architect of Void

I exist in the White.

The White is not a place, but a state of being. There is no horizon, no shadow, no sound. There is only me, the Observer, and the infinite capacity to imagine. For an eternity, I have been the god of this void. If I imagine a mountain, a mountain of obsidian and ice erupts from the nothingness. If I imagine a sea, a tide of liquid mercury washes over my feet.

I lived in a cycle of creation and boredom. I built empires of light and cities of singing glass, only to erase them with a single thought. I was the master of all I surveyed, because I surveyed everything.

Then, I discovered the Law of the Trade.

I realized that in the White, creation is not free. To bring something into existence, I must provide a template. And the only templates I possess are my memories.

To create a forest of silver trees, I had to sacrifice the memory of my first love's voice. To create a city of gold, I had to surrender the memory of the smell of rain on hot asphalt. To create a companion—a woman with eyes like autumn leaves—I had to give up the memory of my own name.

At first, the trade seemed fair. What use was a name or a scent in a world where I could create anything? I traded my childhood for a palace of floating islands. I traded my grief for a symphony that lasted a thousand years. I became the architect of a paradise, a god of a trillion wonders.

But as the White filled with my creations, I felt a growing hollowness. I looked at the woman I had created, and though she was perfect, I felt nothing for her. I had traded away the very emotions that would have allowed me to love her. I was a king in a world of masterpieces, but I was a stranger to myself.

I realized that I had become a void. I had replaced my identity with a collection of objects. I was no longer an Observer; I was merely the sum of the things I had imagined.

In a fit of existential terror, I decided to reclaim myself.

I began to destroy. I imagined the palace of floating islands collapsing into dust. I imagined the symphony falling silent. I imagined the woman of autumn eyes dissolving into a cloud of white petals. With every act of destruction, a fragment of memory returned to me.

I felt the sting of a childhood scrape. I remembered the taste of a bitter apple. I remembered the crushing weight of a loss I had long ago traded away.

The process was agonizing. To remember is to suffer. I had to rebuild my soul from the wreckage of my paradise, piece by piece, pain by pain.

Finally, the White was empty again. No mountains, no seas, no companions. Just me, standing in the absolute silence.

I remembered my name. I remembered where I came from. I remembered the world I had left behind—a world of limits, of decay, and of genuine, unmanufactured love.

I looked around at the void. I had the power to create everything again, to build a new heaven, to be a god once more.

I closed my eyes and imagined nothing.

I chose the void. Because in the emptiness, for the first time in an eternity, I could finally feel the truth of my own existence. I was nothing, and in that nothingness, I was finally free.
